1) What is a "Certified True Translation"?

​

A certified true translation is a document translated from another language, and stamped, signed and certified by a qualified third party (a Certified Translator). The purpose of a certified true translation is to provide official affirmation to the receiving party that the translation is a correct translation and the translator is taking responsibility for its correctness.

2) Is a Certified True Copy (CTC) same as a Certified True Translation or a Certified Correct Translation/ Sworn Translation?

​

NO. A CTC simply means a duplicate copy of the original document (generally a photostated copy) duly stamped, signed and certified to be a true copy of the original document by the certifier. Although many professionals such as lawyer, accountant, company secretary can certify a CTC copy; only CTC certified by a Notary Public would be officially recognized in overseas. Yet some countries/ authorities may accept CTC by a local Commissioner for Oath.

3) Can a lawyer/ company secretary/ notary public/ commissioner for oath sign and effect a "Certified True Translation"?

NO. Only a Certified Translator can effect a copy of "Certified True Translation".

4) What does it mean by a "Notarized Translation"?

​

A Notarized Translation is translation that has been carried out by a translator and notarized by a Notary Public. The translator is required to sign a simple declaration (affidavit) to the effect that the translation is a true representation of the original document.

5) What does it mean by a "Certified Translation"?

​

A Certified Translation however must be carried out by a professional certified translator. Certification involves translating the document and rubber stamping or endorsing each page of the document with an official seal (In Malaysia, the endorsement will be from the ITBM - Institut Terjemahan dan Buku Malaysia/Malaysian Institute of Translation and Books OR the MTA - Malaysian Translator’s Association/Persatuan Penterjemah Malaysia under the umbrella of Institute of Language and Literature/Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka). A certified translation comes with a guarantee of quality because the official governing body of the relevant country has certified the translator.
